Whole30 Meal Planning With Excel (Featuring Pivot Tables!)

I’ve long been contemplating the idea of trying a Whole30… again. My history with the Whole30 includes two failed attempts: one in June 2016 and one in February 2017. In June I made it seven days. In February I made it sixteen. There were eight months in between attempts, and now as October commences it marks another eight months and I can’t quiet the voice that says it’s time to try again. As you might have gathered from my Focus Journal review, I loooove planning. I also love Excel and having everything in a neat little table. And that combination […]

Denver Adventures: A Travel Guide

Last weekend I took a long weekend and headed out to Denver for the first time and it was ~magical.~ I lived in southern California for a few months in college but otherwise have pretty much stuck to the East Coast, save for a little poking around in the Upper Midwest. Needless to say, Colorado was a new experience for me – snow in early October, and mountains of a different nature than any I’d seen before. In between mountain adventures, I ate and drank my way through Denver and Boulder and compiled a list of my favorites. Enjoy! My […]

What I’m Reading – September 2017

This year I made it a goal to “read more,” and despite how vague that resolution/goal is ( seriously the opposite of a SMART goal), I’ve been pretty successful with it. From blogs to the news to novels and memoirs, I’ve spent more time this year reading for fun than I have in years, so I count that as a success. I just hit 10 books for the year, and while that’s not a lot for some people, it’s twice as many as last year so it’s big for me! As for what I’ve been reading recently… Blogs The Tiny […]

Total Closet Overhaul

If you asked me what worries me the most about downsizing and living tiny, it’s the closet space. Really, the whole bed-closet-getting dressed arrangement has me nervous. Where do you store all your clothes?? All your shoes?? And the answer is really just that I have an absurd amount of clothes that I don’t love and don’t wear very often, and that would never fit into the tiny closet in a tiny house. Right now I have an ~amazing~ walk-through closet. The washer and dryer are in the closet, which makes laundry day a breeze. And there is ample space […]

Blogilates Focus Journal Review

I don’t know about you guys, but I. Love. Planners. Like, seriously love. Like, walk down the planner/journal aisle and touch them all and smell them and lust after them and try to restrain myself. When I was in school I used a planner religiously – I always got them from Personal Planner and while I think they’re not the cutest, they have been my absolute favorite in terms of providing me with the layout I need. They have enough space for me to write everything down and the space fits where I intuitively want everything to be. They don’t […]

Why tiny?

Why tiny? How did I get hooked on wanting to live in a tiny house? It seems like an odd dream: to get rid of most of my things and live in a couple hundred square feet. I mean, I’m already in a small one-bedroom apartment, and wouldn’t it be great if there was a spare bedroom for guests to stay in, and a fireplace, and a bigger bathroom, and a study where I could put my desk, and on and on and on? I do find myself thinking those thoughts often. When putting away the Christmas tree stand or […]

Hello, world!

Hello, world! Welcome to Simple Tiny Mine! Or should I say, please welcome Simple Tiny Mine into the world? We’re excited to be here! I’m Katie, the creator of STM, and I’m thrilled to launch this little blog and throw this awkward first post out into the open. Introductions are always the hardest part, right? I wanted to introduce this blog and myself and talk a little about why we’re here! I see this blog as a place for me to document my journey towards achieving financial freedom and downsizing my life, and as a place for me to connect […]
